Those who adulterate food and medicines will now be afraid, because like Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh is also making provision for giving them life imprisonment. So far, there was a provision for only 6 months sentence and Rs 1000 penalty for them. The result of this laxity is that today more than 30 percent of the products in the country are adulterated.

Not only Ghee, milk and spices are adulterated but cereals also continue to be adulterated. The most dangerous adulteration occurs in medicines. As a result, lakhs of people die every year, crores of people fall ill and the entire country has to suffer the loss of their physical weakness.

The anti-adulteration law was first enacted in 1954, but till date no law has been strictly enforced. New laws were also inducted in 2006 and 2018, but they are followed only by their violation. There are many reasons for that.

The first reason is that the punishment for this crime is very less. It’s equal to nothing. I would say that it is not a punishment, but a reward given to adulterants. If one gets 6 months in jail and a thousand rupees fine, then it means that he will enjoy six months in jail in Rs. 150 per month. His food and medicines are all free! As a culprit only the servant gets arrested not the boss.

Now there should be such a law that the top owner of the company or shop is caught in the crime of adulteration. He should first get whipped publicly and then be given rigorous imprisonment. All his movable property should be confiscated. If one such example be set also presented in each province, let’s see if adulteration ends at the root or not. Some punishment should also be given to those who are selling adulterated goods.

Apart from this, the results of adulteration test should come within two-three days. Officers who are found involved in the dealings of adulteration should be expelled from the job forever.

Health Ministry should advertise in all languages ​​and tell people how to check adulterated things at home. Adulteration of medicines and foodstuffs is a type of murder-like crime. It is a mass murder. It is invisible and silent murder. Parliament should pass a stringent law against this murder for the whole country.
