In a money laundering case involving the excise policy, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia filed his bail petition in the Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the court in Delhi ordered him held in judicial custody until April 5. On the last day of his Enforcement Directorate-mandated incarceration, Sisodia was brought before Special Judge MK Nagpal of the Rouse Avenue Courts (ED).
During the hearing, Manish Sisodia submitted an application that mentioned he wanted to read some more books in jail. Responding to this, the court said that the books Sisodia wants will be given to him.
On Tuesday, Sisodia's attorneys contended that no evidence was found during searches conducted by the CBI. Manish Sisodia's senior attorneys Dayan Krishnan and Mohit Mathur asserted that he cooperated with the investigation and that none of the CBI's searches turned up anything unusual that would warrant further confinement.
However, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) opposed his bail plea saying Manish Sisodia may not be a flight risk, but he is a definite risk who will destroy evidence. “A person is a saint till his irregularities and illegalities are not discovered,” Special Public Prosecutor for CBI, advocate DP Singh said.
