The Alumni members also alleged that the teacher has harassed girls and had touched them inappropriately

On 21st May, a 25-year-old girl who works as a psychologist was forced to relive traumatic experiences of sexual abuse she had faced as a teenager, when a series of social media posts appeared on her phone screen.

Several students of a top school in Chennai, Tamil Nadu had on Sunday, 23rd May, shared allegations of sexual harassment against a male teacher in his 50s, who teaches the subject Accounts and Business Studies for XI and XII grade students.

The school alumni have also released a statement addressing the dean, stating that the teacher has been with the institution for 20 years teaching Accountancy and Business Studies and has been making repeated sexual advances, sexually colored remarks.

The Alumni members also alleged that the teacher has harassed girls and had touched them inappropriately.

The statement also claimed that the teacher had threatened students with low grades if they complained against him.

The alumni members called these actions by the teacher predatory in nature and demanded that the teacher be suspended immediately -- removing his participation from academic activities. They also demanded an independent investigation against the teacher, ensuring that Child Protection Committee and Gender Sensitivity Committee are suitably appraised of the matter.

Taking note of the issue DMK MP Kanimozhi also said an inquiry should be conducted and action must be taken against those involved, including school authorities who failed to act against the complaints from students and promised action.
