Sh Anurag Thakur in his speech said, “Indian Achievers Award is a special award but people like Subedar Major Sanjay Kumar made this award very special as he has been serving the nation on the borders for a long time. I have a special connect with the Indian army as I also come from a family of people serving the Indian army. I, myself is a Captain in the 124 Sikh regiment, in the Territorial Army.” Talking about Major Dhyan Chand, he said, “Most of us were not even born when Major Dhyan Chand brought Olympic glory to India. He was the one who brought three consecutive Olympic Gold medals for India in 1928, 1932 and 1936. Today, we are blessed enough to have a Prime Minister who is a true sports lover and sports promoter. The initiatives like Khelo India have been undertaken to promote new sportsmen.” He further added that, “Today, our perception towards para athletes has changed because Prime Minister Modi has given them the respect they deserve and they are being seen as any other athletes, which has helped them grow as sportsperson. While on one hand we have young achievers in various fields who have achieved a lot, some others may have done less but the process of appreciation of these people is truly special. Today the Padma Award is not given by recommendation but it is given to those who are working on ground level and serving the society which has changed its identity.
