PV Sindhu honoured with Champions of Change Telangana Award

P. V. Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player who earned widespread fame after winning a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics

Indian Badminton star and Padma Bhushan awardee PV Sindhu was honoured with the Champions of Change Telangana award for her exceptional contribution in the field of sports. Justice KG Balakrishnan, Former CJI and Former Chairman, NHRC felicitated her with the award.

The first ever Champions of Change Telangana Award was held on 25 February 2022 at Taj Deccan- Kohinoor Hall in Hyderabad, Telangana. Eminent personalities from the state of Telangana were honoured for their immense contribution towards the society.

Some of the other esteemed personalities who were felicitated at the award ceremony were Gastroenterologist and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Nageswar Reddy, Badminton champion and Padma Bhushan PV Sindhu, Member of Telangana Legislative Assembly Pilot Rohith Reddy and Telugu actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

P. V. Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player who earned widespread fame after winning a silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics. With this win, she became the first and youngest Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics.

Sindhu also became the second Indian badminton player to win an Olympic medal after Saina Nehwal. In 2013, she won a bronze medal at the Badminton World Championships to become the first Indian women's singles player to do so. She repeated this feat the very next year by winning another bronze medal.

Her great achievements helped her earn the nation's top two sports honors, the Rajiv Gandhi KhelRatna and the Arjuna Award. She was also awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in March 2015 and was later awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2021. While being born to a family deeply rooted in sports might have helped her, according to her coach Pullela Gopichand, her determination and commitment to the game is the reason behind her success.

Champions of Change is an Indian award, for promoting Gandhian values, (Swachata), community service and social development (in Aspirational district in India), selected by constitutional jury members headed by K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India and Former Chairman NHRC along with Former Judge of Supreme Court of India. Champions of Change Telangana award is a state version of Champions of change national award.

IFIE annually organizes Champions of Change Award at International, National and state-Level in India and it is usually presented by the President, Vice-President, Governor or a leading figure of India. Mr. Nandan Jha is the founder and Chairman of Champions of Change Award.
