Sub Maj Sanjay Kumar is a name that is etched in the annals of Indian military history as a symbol of courage, bravery and sacrifice. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest military honor in India, for his outstanding gallantry and bravery during the Kargil War of 1999.

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar volunteered to be the leading scout of the attacking column tasked with capturing area Flat Top of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley on 4th July 1999. During the attack, enemy fire from one of the sangars stalled the column. However, with utter disregard for his personal safety, Rifleman Sanjay Kumar charged at the enemy and killed three intruders in the ensuing hand-to-hand combat. Despite being seriously injured, he charged onto the second bunker, killing another enemy soldier and securing the area.

His brave actions inspired his comrades to take on the enemy and wrest the area Flat Top from their hands. His unwavering courage, exceptional devotion to duty, and cool presence of mind in the face of extreme danger made him a true hero of the Kargil War.

Sub Maj Sanjay Kumar's legacy as a brave soldier who never hesitated to put his life on the line for his country will always be remembered and celebrated. His name will forever be etched in the hearts of his fellow soldiers and in the history of the Indian armed forces as a symbol of selflessness and courage.
