Bollywood Actor & Humanitarian Sonu Sood has been selected as one of the winners of the prestigious Champions of Change Award 2020. Sonu has been chosen by a constitutional jury headed by K.G. Balakrishnan, Former CJI and Former Chairman, NHRC for his exceptional work during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Sonu has been known as a savior for many as he not only helped stranded migrant workers reach home but has also continued to serve the society in many other ways as well. ‘Messiah’ as he is fondly called, Sonu also launched a website and app called ‘Pravasi Rojgar’ to help migrant workers find suitable jobs amid the pandemic.
Sonu recently launched an initiative 'Ilaaj India' platform to provide healthcare services for needy people. In September 2020, he was chosen for the prestigious ‛SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award’ by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for his humanitarian works during the pandemic.
During November 2020, Sonu was appointed as the state icon of Punjab by Election Commission. Besides this he is a successful film actor who has done movies across various languages in India.
Champions of Change is an Indian award, for promoting Gandhian values, (Swachata), community service and social development (in Aspirational district in india), selected by constitutional jury members headed by K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India and Former Chairman NHRC. It is given annually in four categories, and usually presented by the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister of India or a leading figure. Mr. NandanJha is the founder and head of Champions of Change Award.
The inaugural Champions of Change Award was held in 2018 and it was distributed by the Vice-President of India M.Venkaiah Naidu at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The second edition was held in 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi and awards were given by the then President of India, Sh. Pranab Mukherjee. Jharkhand CM Sh. Hemant Soren and Dy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia were among the recipients of awards.
