She is also the second woman to hold the nation's highest post

On Thursday, Draupadi Murmu was chosen to serve as India's 15th president. She defeated Yashwant Sinha, the nominee of the opposition.

On July 21, the votes were counted. First President of India born after independence, first President of India from an indigenous tribe, and first President of India born in Odisha is 64-year-old Murmu. She is also the second woman to hold the nation's highest post.

Following her victory, twitter was flooded with congratulatory tweets for Murmu:
