Explosion at TMC panchayat member's house in Bengal's Birbhum

This explosion occurred a week after the May 16 explosion at a rogue firework factory in West Bengal's East Midnapore area

A blast took place at Trinamool Congress member Sheikh Shafiq in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, Monday. The explosion that happened this afternoon caused damage to the house. The explosion did not result in any known casualties.

According to early accounts, the TMC panchayat member's home saw a sudden explosion as a result of which the roof and stairs were entirely demolished.

The police have started investigating the blast and how it could have occurred. Initial reports suggest 'desi bombs' that were kept in the house may have led to the explosion.

This explosion occurred a week after the May 16 explosion at a rogue firework factory in West Bengal's East Midnapore area.

At the hospital, nine of the injured patients were pronounced dead, and nine others were sent for care. The West Bengal government granted a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh for the deceased person's heirs, and the CID is currently looking into the case.

The firecracker factory was raided last month and action was taken against the owner. The factory, however, managed to continue functioning despite the crackdown, police sources said.
