While India’s recovery rate has been improving steadily, experts now say that the country is already facing a second wave of infections and cases are likely to rise exponentially in the absence of a vaccine.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected states with over 2,36,208 active cases and 26,604 deaths. The state also accounts for a high portion of the country’s total death toll. More than 300 people have died in the state in the past 24 hours, according to health ministry data.
Meanwhile, the rapid rise in rural cases is proving to be another challenge for India’s government.
