India's covid tally crosses 13 lakh-mark with 48,916 new cases in a day

As per latest figures issued by the Health Ministry, India has seen a daily spurt of 48,916 coronavirus cases. The total count now stands at 1,337,022

Even as India's coronavirus recovery and fatality rate continue to improve, the situation seems to be worsening in terms of case numbers. The country's total Covid-19 tally has crossed 13 lakh and more than 30,000 people have died due to the deadly virus. The case count has jumped by a lakh in less than two days as the virus spreads rapidly in rural areas. At the moment, states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bihar are witnessing a sharp rise in daily cases.

As per latest figures issued by the Health Ministry, India has seen a daily spurt of 48,916 coronavirus cases. The total count now stands at 1,337,022. At least half of India’s population is under various types of lockdowns — full, partial or weekend. States such as Bihar, Sikkim, Nagaland are under a complete lockdown; West Bengal has announced a two-day lockdown every week, and states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have opted for weekend lockdowns.

Worldometer recorded 288,254 new cases worldwide in the past 24 hours. As many as 15,941,806 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 9,715,983 have recovered, 641,868 have died so far. The US on Friday recorded 77,885 new cases and Brazil 58,249.

There are currently 4,56,071 active cases of COVID-19 in the country. Thus, around 63.54 percent people have recovered so far.

The total number of confirmed cases includes foreigners.

This is the third consecutive day when COVID-19 cases increased by more than 45,000.
