Nicknamed as ‘Roadkari’ and ‘Flyover Minister,’ Nitin Gadkari has helped transformed the transport infrastructure landscape in the country. Bubbling with ideas and animated by a businesslike attitude, he is widely acknowledged as the top performing minister in the Modi government. From his days as the PWD minister in Maharashtra to his present role as the Highways, Shipping & Water Resource Minister at the Centre, Gadkari has worked industriously to improve transport infrastructure.
He is also known to have played a significant role in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Earlier, he was given the additional charge of the ministries of Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Sanitation. He has risen from the grassroots, working hard to reach the Union Cabinet. Apart from working on infrastructure, he is also known for his keenness to make India’s roads safer. The stricter laws to check traffic violations are said to be his idea. Gadkari has also been trying to ensure that the latest in technology is used everywhere, from building transport infrastructure to detecting traffic violations.
