Over 54K new Coronavirus infections recorded in 24 hours

The number of coronavirus infections reported in a span of 24 hours has remained below 60,000 for the fifth consecutive day

India's coronavirus infections reached over 7.76 million, with 54,366 new cases being reported in the past 24 hours, data from the health ministry showed on Friday. With the fresh number of cases, India's coronavirus caseload has climbed to 77,61,312.

The number of coronavirus infections reported in a span of 24 hours has remained below 60,000 for the fifth consecutive day.

According to the health ministry, 690 coronavirus patients have succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours. Deaths in India have been relatively low, with 117,306 mortalities so far from the coronavirus.

A total of 69,48,497 people (an increase of 73,979 since Thursday) have recuperated from the disease so far pushing the national recovery rate to over 89 per cent.

India's total active coronavirus cases now stand at 6,95,509 after a decrease of 20,303 in the past 24 hours, according to the health ministry.

The world's second-most populous country also has the world's second-highest caseload, behind the United States, which has 8.3 million infections so far.
