Senior journalist Ved Pratap Vaidik breathed his last on Tuesday. The 78-year-old was rushed to a hospital in Gurugram after he reportedly had a fall in the bathroom at his residence.

Dr. Ved Pratap Vaidik is counted among those national pioneers who made Hindi the language of fundamental thinking and made continuous struggle and sacrifice to get Indian languages their proper place. Maharishi Dayanand, Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Vaidikji's name is leading among the warriors who carried forward the great tradition of Ram Manohar Lohia.
Dr. Vaidik, a man of unique personality, who displayed importance in many fields like journalism, political thinking, international politics, unique struggle for Hindi, world travel, influential oratory, organization-skills etc. at the same time, was born on 30 December 1944 in Indore on the full moon day of Paush. He had always been a first class student.
A political analyst and a renowned columnist, Ved Pratap Vaidik was the founder-editor of Press Trust of India's Hindi news edition Bhasha.
He studied and researched Afghan foreign policy and enrolled at Columbia University. He also held degrees from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London and Moscow's Institute of People of Asia.
He was the Chairman of an initiative called Bharatiya Bhasha Sammelan. He also held other important positions.
He was considered as the towering figure of Hindi journalism.
