Chief Justice of India (CJI) U U Lalit has called a meeting of allSupreme Court judges to "ceremonially" hand over the letter of recommendation to his successor CJI.
U U Lalit will send the name of Justice DY Chandrachud to the Centre as the 50th Chief Justice of India.
Protocol dictates that the incumbent CJI has to send a formal letter recommending his successor to the government. The letter is handed over to the next CJI and sent to the law minister.
A meeting has been scheduled at 10:15 am of all SC judges for a formal handing over of the letter.
Former CJI Justice NV Ramana was the first to release the photographs of the "ceremony" to the public. Now it seems that the SC is making the handing over of the letter a more public event.
