In the last three years, DPGC with $6.4 billion net worth aggressively participated in the bidding process for acquiring grounded Jet Airways and huge loss-making but prestigious public carrier Air India.
DPGC with its 21 associate companies operates in 11 countries and has entered into several sectors including Finance, Banking, Healthcare, Aviation & Avitronics, Shipping, Realty, Retail, Infrastructure, Energy, Information Technology, and Mass Media.
DPGC’s move is perfectly aligned with the government’s disinvestment plans. DP Retail is yet another initiative by DPGC, led by Ajay Harinath Singh — the prince of Sultanpur, a Raghuvanshi, who is the direct bloodline and the descendent of Lord Rama’s son Lava.
About his major investment plans Ajay says, “The retail industry has emerged as one of the most dynamic and fast-paced sectors with double-digit annual growth and it accounts for over 10 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and around eight per cent of the employment. India is the world’s fifth-largest global destination in the retail space. With DP Retail, we would be leveraging our countrywide network to cater to the rising consumer demand”.
“DP Retail will be investing over Rs 1,000 crore in the next financial year (2021-22) and will also bring in foreign direct investments. Initially, the company will focus on offline sales, and being a tech-enabled company, it will also strengthen its presence in industry through digital disruptions,” he says.
During the tough times of Covid-19 pandemic, where many large business entities came to a halt or they decreased the number of employees, Ajay’s DPGC is one of the few companies which continue to provide employment to the people in need. His global business entity has started the three-wheeler business for the local passengers. After its launch in Mumbai and Jharkhand, DPGC’s subsidiary Darwin Platform Car Cab Trade Limited will start its services in Patna. Darwin Platform is providing employment opportunities to the unemployed youth in their own cities.
Established in 1996, DPGC has a net worth of $6.4 billion and it has 21 associate companies. Over the years, the group has made rapid progress in several sectors including finance, bankiing, healthcare, aviatronics, energy, mass media, IT and now retail. In recent years, he has devoted his time to numerous philanthropic endeavors, expanding his charitable activities across oceans and feels there is still a long way to go. For him sky is the limit.
