Exclusive Conversation with Abhay Verma of the Family Man 2 Fame

During a recent exclusive interaction with Arpit Gupta from Power Corridors, Abhay opened up about the success of The Family Man 2, landing the role of Kalyan aka Salman and much more

The Family Man season 2 premiered earlier this month on the OTT platform (Amazon Prime videos). The show featured Manoj Bajpai reprising his role of Srikant Tiwari while it also featured Samantha Akkineni and Abhay Verma in pivotal roles.

The talented actor Abhay Verma has been the talk of the town for the way he portrayed the character of Kalyan aka Salman, a boy who is helping terrorists to accomplish their mission and is told to pretend fake love with daughter of senior NIA officer, Srikant Tiwari as a part of terror mission but ultimately falls for her which leads him to die.

During a recent exclusive interaction with Arpit Gupta from Power Corridors, Abhay opened up about the success of The Family Man 2, landing the role of Kalyan aka Salman and much more.

Recalling his audition days Abhay said, “Nervousness was always there right from the auditions till the release but once people appreciated my performance, everything settled down and I felt in-ease.”

Elaborating on the success of the show he said, “It felt like a dream coming true and I feel incredibly happy seeing my struggle paying off”

Asked whether he felt nervous sharing screen with a great actor like Manoj Bajpai, Abhay said, “Off-screen, Manoj Bajpai used to be very cool and a chit-chat partner to the co-stars but as soon as the shot was ready, he used to switch his personality to the character within the fraction of seconds and that’s something which inspired me as a young actor. The balance between personal and professional life which Manoj Sir maintains is something I would also like to adapt to”.

Being asked about what or who motivates him, Abhay said, “It is altogether the cinema and my passion for acting that motivates me. Hard work, hunger and thirst for acting have led me here despite all the struggles”.

“I also get inspired from little things, be it a beggars from street, who run whole day to earn a living and stake their lives at risk and finally find happiness at end of the day when they are with their families with whatever they get during the whole day, so happiness is what I need to get inspired rather than from any celebrity”, he added.

Asked about his mother’s reaction to the show he said, “Being her a businesswoman she often stays busy and doesn’t talk much. Though I am very much attached to my mother, she once called him and said, ‘How will you address- with Namaste or as-salamu alaykum” he laughingly said. “I feel the real success and forget my struggle when people tell my mother about my part and appreciate it”.

Abhay explained how he found his role as a positive one, he stated, ‘The controversies are part and parcel of life of an actor, but I believe the character of Kalyan was that on an innocent boy who becomes a terrorist in disguise.” He also said that the role didn’t seem controversial to him but was a bit of challenge. Abhay added that he is always ready to do challenging roles which helps an actor to grow.

Abhay Verma belongs to a business family in Panipat and has come all the way to Mumbai to fulfil his passion of being an actor. When asked about the journey, he said that the uneasiness and struggle for acting followed him since class 10th and he dropped his graduation in between to follow his passion and came to Mumbai. He also concluded that his parents have always been incredibly supportive and blessed him to lead his life to the greater paths of success.
