Famous for his popular character Khopdi in DD hit show Nukkad in the 80s, Sameer Khakhar passed away in Mumbai. He was a popular stage, film and TV actor for almost four decades. Samir was 71 years old.
For a long time now, Sameer was away from acting. Sameer had made a comeback after settling in the USA in 1996. His last film was Jai Ho and he was also in a TV show named Sanjeevani.
Sameer's most popular TV shows include Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shriman Shrimati, Maniranjan and Adalaat. While he was seen in films like Hasee to Phasee, Patel ko Punjabi shaadi, Pushpak, Parinda and Shahenshah among others.
Sameer Khakar's funeral took place at Babhai Naka Crematorium in Borivali. He is survived by his wife.
Speaking to Indian Express, Sameer's brother Ganesh said, "He experienced some respiratory issues yesterday morning. We called the doctor home and he asked to get him admitted. So we took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the ICU. He then had multiple organ failure and today at 4.30 am he collapsed.”
