Congress claims 5,000 accounts blocked, in talks with Twitter to resolve issue

The Twitter accounts of AICC general secretaries Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Ajay Maken, party's whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore, Assam in-charge and former Union minister Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev have also been locked, the party said

The Congress party has claimed that party’s official Twitter account and more than 5,000 accounts of its state leaders and workers have been blocked by the microblogging site.

The Twitter accounts of AICC general secretaries Randeep Surjewala, KC Venugopal, Ajay Maken, party's whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore, Assam in-charge and former Union minister Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev have also been locked, the party said.

The Congress party is now in talks with Twitter India. Senior Congress MPs are talking to Twitter about resolving the issue. A letter has also been sent to Twitter by Congress. The party wants the issue to be resolved soon.

Seeking a graded approach by Twitter, Congress said an account should be suspended only after issuing a warning and deletion of the tweet.
