INDO-BHUTAN COURTSHIP

Among all neighbourly countries it was Bhutan where Prime Minister Narendra Modi went first. Why did it happen? This happened not because of any crisis but because Bhutan is a very unique neighbor of India. Bhutan is the only neighbor of India with no diplomatic relations with China. All the neighbors of India consider themselves as part of ancient or greater India, but they are at the forefront of forging friendship with China and manipulating India. Talk about Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Maldives and what to say about  Pakistan. Chinese leader Mao Tse Tung used to describe Bhutan and Sikkim as palm fingers of China, but Bhutan is the only neighbor of India where Chinese impact has no existence. Recently, when China tried to occupy the Doklam area of Bhutan, India defended the sovereignty of Bhutan by deputing its forces.  Although the 1949 treaty with Bhutan has expired, still the burden of Bhutan’s security and foreign policy rests on India’s shoulders. Bhutan has supported India in the United Nations at almost all times. Going to Bhutan, Modi has brought India more closer than ever before.  The King of Bhutan and the Prime Minister of Bhutan did not leave any stone unturned in order to welcome our Prime Minister. Modi signed 10 agreements with them. Matters such as education, research, solar energy, power generation, information technology, space station have been kept in the agreements. Bhutan has an outstanding contribution to electricity generation.  At present, this small country is generating more than 2000 MW of electricity. India has also increased its gas supply to Bhutan from 700 tonnes per month to 1000 tonnes per month. Citizens of both countries will now also get abundant facility of RuPay card. Bhutan also has full Indian support in its five-year plans. In this picturesque nation of about 8 lakh citizens, crimes are almost nil. The purity of the environment in this country is more than that of European nations. I with my family have been guests of the royal family of Thimphu, the father of the present King of Bhutan was our host then. I did not see any other educated and curious President like the Prime Minister or King of Bhutan among the young leaders of South Asia
