The BJP on Saturday announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will contest the polls from Gorakhpur seat.
Addressing a press conference, BJP's in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Dharmendra Pradhan said for phase one, the party has listed candidates for 57 out of 58 seats while for the second phase, candidates for 48 out of 55 seats have been named.
Besides Yogi Adityanath, Pradhan said that Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will contest from Sirathu.
20 sitting MLAs dropped from BJP's first list
In its first list of candidates, the BJP has not given tickets to 20 sitting MLAs. Of the seven Assembly seats in Bulandshahr, the party has not given tickets to four sitting MLAs.
Besides, the BJP has also given more than 68 per cent tickets to candidates from backward classes and women. In the first list, 44 OBC candidates, 19 from Scheduled Castes and 10 women have been named by the BJP.
