Now Mr Pradeep Kumar Sinha, is the longest serving cabinet secretary in India's history. On Friday, 7th of June, 2019 he has been given a three-month extension as per an official order. A 1977-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Pradeep has also served as the power secretary earlier.
What’s noteworthy is that this is the third time Pradeep Sinha has been given the extension. Earlier in the year 2017 and 2018 he was given extensions for one year each. Thus he has become the only Indian Administrative Officer who is serving the longest term in the last seven Indian decades.
PM Modi heads the appointments committee of the cabinet which has approved extension in Pradeep Kumar’s service. In accordance with the Personnel Ministry’s order, Mr Sinha’s tenure for another period of three months starts from June 12, 2019.
Four years ago in May 2015 Mr Sinha was appointed for the top post in Indian bureaucracy as the Cabinet Secretory. His tenure was set for two years which have already gotten extended twice.
