Congress leader and former Union minister Jitin Prasada has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Jitin Prasada met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence today morning before joining the BJP.
Prasada, who was also part of the G-23 group in Congress that had written a letter registering its dissent with the party leadership, joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP chief JP Nadda.
“I would like to thank the prime minister, home minister, JP Nadda and other party leaders to give me this opportunity to work. This is new chapter of my political career. This decision of mine has come after much deliberation. BJP is the only party that is working for national building," he said.
Considered close to Rahul Gandhi, Prasada in 2019 rubbished rumours of being upset with the Congress leadership and switching over to BJP. He is the second leader close to Gandhi after Jyotiraditya Scindia to switch over to the BJP.
