Born in 1914 in Madras, India, she was a fierce freedom fighter who dedicated her life to the struggle for Indian independence

The highly prestigious national award Champions of Change Award 2021 was organized on 26 February 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Former Hon’ble President of India Sh. Ram Nath Kovind was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Sh. Ram Nath Kovind conferred the awardees with Gold medal and certificates.

The dignitaries who were awarded were Union Minister, Revolutionary Dr Lakshmi Sehgal, Legendary author Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Pt Chhannulal Misra, Sub Major Sanjay Kumar, Former PS to Hon'ble PM of India Sh Nripendra Misra, Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, Sh Anuj Wahi, Dr Sundeep Aanand, Former Union Minister Ashok Pradhan, Founder of MeghaShrey NGO Seema Singh, Film Actress Juhi Chawla, Indian actor R Madhavan, Astrologer Sohini Sastri, Dr Mir Jawad Zar Khan, Dhyara Batra, and Sh Debashish Patnaik.

Revolutionary Dr Lakshmi Sahgal was posthumously conferred with the honoue by Sh Ram Nath Kovind Ji.

Dr. Lakshmi Sahgal was a revolutionary and a hero of the Indian Independence Movement. Born in 1914 in Madras, India, she was a fierce freedom fighter who dedicated her life to the struggle for Indian independence. Dr. Sahgal was a medical doctor by profession and played an instrumental role in organizing the Indian National Army (INA) under the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

Dr. Sahgal's bravery and commitment to the Indian independence movement earned her many accolades, including the Padma Vibhushan, one of India's highest civilian honors. She was also a member of the Indian National Congress and a leading feminist and socialist activist. Dr. Sahgal was known for her courage and her tireless efforts to fight for the rights of women and marginalized communities.

Dr. Sahgal's unwavering commitment to the cause of Indian independence, her pioneering work in medicine, and her lifelong dedication to social justice make her a true inspiration for people all over the world. Her legacy continues to live on, and her work will always be remembered and celebrated as a shining example of the power of determination and the triumph of the human spirit.

In recognition of her lifelong dedication to the cause of Indian independence and her contributions to the betterment of society, Dr. Lakshmi Sahgal has been posthumously awarded the Champions of Change Award, 2021.  

Champions of Change is an Indian award, for promoting Gandhian values, (Swachata), community service and social development in Aspirational (undeveloped) districts in India, selected by Justice K.G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India and Former Chairman NHRC along with former judges of the Supreme Court of India, diplomats and senior journalists.

Interactive Forum on Indian Economy annually organizes Champions of Change Award at International, National and state-Level in India and it is usually presented by the President, Vice-President, Governor or the constitutional persons of India. From this year onwards, this award will be organized internationally at Washington DC, USA by the name of ‘Global Champion of Change’. Advocate Nandan Jha is the founder and Chairman of Champions of Change Award.
