ED recovers 2 AK-47 during raids in Jharkhand Illegal Mining Probe

Although it's unclear at this time if the guns discovered in an almirah are unlawful, the central agency has already seized control of them

During raids today, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) confiscated two AK-47 weapons from a Ranchi house that was allegedly connected to Prem Prakash, an aide to Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The searches were conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into a mining scam estimated to be worth $100 million. Mr. Prakash and Mr. Soren have not yet responded.

Although it's unclear at this time if the guns discovered in an almirah are unlawful, the central agency has already seized control of them.

According to information from ED sources, raids are currently taking place at up to 20 locations in Jharkhand, neighbouring Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and the Delhi-NCR. The case principally involves illicit mining and extortion, while the ED is also looking into the money-laundering aspect.

Today's searches came after Pankaj Mishra, a political aide of Chief Minister Soren, and Mr Mishra's associate Bachhu Yadav gave fresh information to the ED, the sources told PTI. Both of them are already in custody.
