A Navy MiG-29K aircraft crashed today while on a routine mission off the coast of Goa due to a technical issue. The Navy said in a statement that the pilot safely made an emergency exit and was saved after a quick search and rescue effort.
A board of inquiry (BoI) has been appointed to look into the accident's cause. Since 2019, there have been four accidents involving the MiG-29K.
As the plane was making its way back to the base, it crashed.
The K-36D-3.5 ejection seat, made in Russia and largely regarded as the most advanced in the world, is installed on the MiG-29K. The pilot in the back seat gets ejected first if the ejection handles are pulled, then the pilot in the front.
Further details are awaited..
