Acharya Balkrishna selected for Champions of Change Award 2019

In 1995, Ramdev with his close associate, Balkrishna, set up Divya Pharmacy to make Ayurvedic and herbal medicines.

Acharya Balkrishna has  been selected for the prestigious Champions of Change Award 2019. He is the owner and chairman of the consumer goods company Patanjali Ayurved. In 1995, Balkrishna and Ramdev founded Divya Yoga Pharmacy in Haridwar, and in 2006, they founded Patanjali Ayurved, an FMCG company involved in the manufacturing and trading of FMCG, herbal, and ayurvedic products.

Balkrishna Suvedi, also known as Acharya Balakrishna holds as much as 94 per cent of Patanjali shares and does not accept salary from the company. He heads around 34 companies and three trusts associated with Patanjali brand and Baba Ramdev. Born to Nepalese parents who later migrated to India, Acharya Balakrishna was Ramdev's junior in ashram Khanpur Gurukul in Haryana. In 1995, Ramdev with his close associate, Balkrishna, set up Divya Pharmacy to make Ayurvedic and herbal medicines. Later, with Baba Ramdev's increasing popularity and substantial funds, Patanjali Ayurved was set up as a private company in 2006.

Champions of Change is an Indian award, for promoting Gandhian values, (Swachata), community service and social development (in Aspirational district in india), selected by constitutional jury members headed by K. G. Balakrishnan, Former Chief Justice of India and Former Chairman NHRC. It is given annually in four categories, and usually presented by the President, Vice president, Prime Minister of India or a leading figure.

The foundation, currently headed by Nandan Jha, was created in 2011. The award ceremony is organized annualy.

The first edition of Champions of Change Award was graced by Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M Venkaiah Naidu who also gave away the award to winner include:

Champions of Change every year is organized by the Interactive Forum on Indian Economy (IFIE), which is a Government of India recognized non-for-profit company (80G, 12A,8A compliant) and its prestigious news magazine, Power Corridors.
