These people truly deserve Padma Awards

If the name of Sudhir Goyal, who is running 'Sevadham' in Ambodia village of Ujjain, was also associated with these people, then the prestige of the Padma awards would have been enhanced

This year 141 people were given Padma awards. The people who get the Padma awards are congratulated by their friends and relatives but I either keep quiet or send a message of sympathy to some of my dearest friends. I sympathise because do not know how many efforts people have to make to get such awards. Sometimes they have to run after the houses of unpleasant leaders and officers and sometimes bribes have to be paid.

However, not all awardees are like this. But this time many such people have got this honor, who can neither recommend themselves nor get it done by anyone else. They mind their own business. There are many of these people who don’t even know how to read or write. Either they do not have a television set, and even if they do, they are least interested in politics. They do not watch news. They do not even know the names of our President and Prime Minister. They do not even know whether there is any government honor or not? They don't care about any award or reproach. Such people are inspirational men. This time also my heartiest congratulations to many such people for being selected for the Padma Shri award and also appreciation for that government awards-committee. Who are these? They are:

  • Harekala Hajabba, who himself is illiterate and used to sell oranges sitting on the sidewalk. He opened the first school in his village in Karnataka by investing his lifetime's earnings
  • Second one is Mohammad Sharif of Ayodhya, who cremated more than 25,000 unclaimed bodies. In 1992, the mutilated body of his son on the railway track inspired him to do this charitable work
  • Third one is Chultim Chonjor of Ladakh is such a strong man that he single-handedly erected 38 km road till a village in Kargil region
  • Fourth one is Tulsi Gowda, a tribal woman from Karnataka, planted more than 30 thousand trees alone
  • Fifth one is Himmata Ram Bhambhu of Rajasthan, who is also such a determined man. He has successfully campaigned to plant thousands of saplings in cities like Jodhpur, Barmer, Sikar, Jaisalmer and Nagaur
  • Sixth, Rahibai Popre, a tribal woman from Maharashtra, also prepares indigenous seeds herself, the crops of which are giving better income to the farmers of that area. People call her 'Beejmata' or Seed Mother.

If the name of Sudhir Goyal, who is running 'Sevadham' in Ambodia village of Ujjain, was also associated with these people, then the prestige of the Padma awards would have been enhanced. Seven hundred fifty handicapped, lepers, blind, deaf, abandoned women, former prostitutes, ex-beggars etc. live in this Sevadham for free. It does not get any government assistance. Many such people are doing anonymous service in India. They should be discovered and honored so that the wave of selfless service can spread in the country.
