CWG 2022: India defeat South Africa 3-0 women’s team table tennis group tie

In the women's team Group 2 match, India defeated South Africa 3-0 riding on the success of Manika Batra, the singles gold medallist from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, and Sreeja Akula, the current national champion

In the women's team table tennis competition at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Friday, July 29, defending champions India got off to a strong start. India's first victory at the Games, which got under way on Thursday with a magnificent opening ceremony, was achieved by the Manika Batra-led team.

In the women's team Group 2 match, India defeated South Africa 3-0 riding on the success of Manika Batra, the singles gold medallist from the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, and Sreeja Akula, the current national champion.

Reeth Tennison and Sreeja Akula of India won the opening match against Lailaa Edwards and Danisha Patel of South Africa 11-7, 11-7, and 11-5.

The first singles match of the tie saw Manika Batra easily defeat South Africa's Musfiquh Kalam 11-5, 11-3, 11-2 in a flash.

After Manika's convincing victory, Sreeja Akula dominated Danisha Patel in three games, 11-5, 11-3, and 11-6.
