World Cup 2019 has almost reached halfway stage and things are turning out to be quite difficult for the Top Contenders. Team India were given a reality check by the Afghanistan Team while New Zealand sneaked out a win from the jaws of defeat. Yesterday’s match saw two of the bottom placed teams come face to face in a fight for pride. Biggest chokers of the game, South Africa took on the ever-mercurial Pakistan.
Winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first and started cautiously. Both the openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq added on 81 for the first wicket before Zaman lost his wicket to Imran Tahir. Tahir soon removed Imam for 44. Useful contributions from middle order and a fiery 89 off just 59 balls from Haris Sohail helped Pakistan reach a competitive 308 for the loss of 7 wickets from 50 overs.
Chasing 309 for the victory, South Africans never looked in the hunt against a useful bowling attack and managed to get just 259 runs off their 50 overs. Captain Faf Du Plesis with a much slow 63 off 79 balls was the top scorer for South Africa. Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan took 3 wickets each while Mohd. Aamir managed to get 2 scalps. Haris Sohail was adjudged Man of the Match for his superb batting.
