Kangaroos overpower Carribean in hard-fought clash

Defending Champions Australia beat West Indies by 15 runs in the Match 10 of the ICC Cricket World Cup on Thursday

After winning the toss, the Carribean Team put Australia in to bat. Australia had a bad start as they lost Aaron Finch in the 3rd over itself. Few overs later, the Kangaroos were restricted to 38-4 and looked in serious trouble. Skipper Steve Smith tried to steady the ship and put on 41 runs with Marcus Stoinis and 68 runs with Alex Carey respectively but it was Nathan Coulter-Nile who provided the much needed resistance to the Aussies with his power hitting. Coulter-Nile hammered 92 off just 60 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. Australia were finally bundled out for 288 runs but not before they had made a strong comeback.

Chasing 289 for the win, West Indies lost both the openers for just 31 runs before Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope put on 68 runs for the third wicket. Pooran looked in great touch but lost his wicket to Adam Zampa. Some useful contributions from the following batsmen put West Indies back on track. Captain Holder looked in sublime touch as he smashed a half century but soon West Indies lost momentum due to some bad decision making and were restricted to 273 for 9 after 50 overs. Mitchell Starc was the destroyer-in-chief as he took 5 West Indian wickets for just 46 runs. Nathan Coulter-Nile was adjudged Man of the Match for his terrific knock. Australia gained 2 crucial points whereas West Indies have no one to blame except themselves.

In Today's match i.e. 7 June, the ever mercurial Pakistan will take on the under-performing Srilanka. Pakistani fans hope the team continues to build on the fantastic performance by them against England while SriLanka need to boost themselves up to become more competitive.
