Kidambi Srikanth bows out of Asian Badminton Championships after loss to Weng Hong of China

Srikanth fought back well from the opening-game defeat to force a decider, but the star Indian shuttler was unable to match the intensity of the World No. 81 who has been in impressive form this season

World Championships silver medalist Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in the Round of 16 in men's singles at the Asian Badminton Championships in Manilla, the Philippines on Thursday. The 7th seed lost to qualifier Yang Weng Hong of China 16-21, 21-17, 17-21 in an hour and 17 minutes as the Indian shuttler was unable to bounce back after taking the match to the decider.

Srikanth fought back well from the opening-game defeat to force a decider, but the star Indian shuttler was unable to match the intensity of the World No. 81 who has been in impressive form this season. Wang Hong had come into the continental tournament on the back of winning Korea Open Super 500 tournament.

With Kidambi Srikanth's exit, the Indian men's singles campaign at the premier continental tournament came to an early end. 5th seed Lakshya Sen, who was expected to lead the country’s campaign, suffered a shock first-round exit, losing to Li Shi Feng 12-21, 21-10, 21-19
