SHIKHAR DHAWAN CENTURY OVERPOWERS AUSSIES

The strong Indian batting line up was at its best on Sunday as Men In Blue thrashed the Defending Champions Australia by 36 runs.

Winning the toss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli, opted to bat first. Both the Indian openers looked in great control as soon as they went into bat. Shikhar Dhawan, in particular, looked in sublime touch as he punished the Australian bowlers every time they bowled bad deliveries. Soon both the openers completed their half centuries and looked to carry the momentum but soon Australia picked up the wicket of Rohit. The breakthrough came at the right time for the Kangaroos as the partnership was looking dangerous. In came the Indian captain Virat Kohli and started cautiously as the Aussies looked to have a plan for Kohli. On the other end, Shikhar Dhawan continued in full flow and looked to up the ante and punished the Aussie bowlers. Soon Dhawan completed his 17th century and celebrated in his own trademark style. Gradually Virat Kohli also improved his strike rate by pushing for quick singles and scoring odd boundaries here and there.

Shekhar Dhawan finally got out to Mitchell Starc but not before smashing a 109 ball 117 studded with 16 boundaries. Virat started to accelerate and with the help of lower order batsmen pushed Indian score above 300. Hardik Pandya, in particular, was severe on the Australian bowlers smashing 48 runs off just 27 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 huge sixes. India put up 352 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their given 50 overs.

Chasing 353 for the victory, Australia started slowly and were never in control of the required run rate. Warner and Finch put up a half century stand before the latter was run out in a unfortunate manner. Steve Smith provided the much needed power hitting and played a vital knock. Australian middle order tried their level best to match up to the required run rate put perished under pressure. Whole Australian team was bundled out for 316 runs in 50 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan was adjudged Man of the match for his terrific knock. Now India have won both their matches while Australia have 2 wins from 3 matches. Today West Indies takes on the South Africans in another crucial encounter.
