Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has walked into a controversy yet again, the latest episode being at Mecca during the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and with the Saudi Arabia monarch King Salman bin Abdulaziz.
During a visit to the Gulf country for the OIC conference, Khan triggered an uproar on the social media for ‘insulting’ the Saudi King, who was supposed to have been welcoming the Pakistani PM warmly.
However, Khan faced the wrath of people on social media after he seems to be insulting the Saudi King. From what can be seen in the video that went viral on Twitter, King Salman was waiting to receive Khan, who was seen walking towards the Saudi monarch.
As is the general norm, there was a translator standing next to King Salman and Khan muttered something to the translator. The person then conveyed the message to the Saudi King.
Following that, Khan then gestured something at the Saudi King which the translator was passing on to him. But before the Saudi King could even respond, the Pakistan PM is seen walking away.
This apparently angered the Saudi kingdom and as a result, King Salman cancelled all bilateral engagements and meetings with Imran Khan. The Saudi government was livid after the incident and took up the matter with the highest authority.
It is to be noted here that Saudi Arabia is one of the most important countries for Pakistan as the Gulf kingdom has helped the cash-strapped nation with financial aid that runs into billions of dollars and this incident could dent the relationship between the two countries.
