'Father of Bangladesh' nominated for Gandhi Mandela Award 2019

Sheikh Mujibur is considered to be the driving force behind the independence of Bangladesh.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, known as the father of Bangladesh, has has been nominated for the prestigious 'Gandhi Mandela Award', 
to be held later this year, alongside other distinguished persons/organizations. He served as the first President of Bangladesh and later as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh from 17 April 1971 until his assassination on 15 August 1975.

Sheikh Mujibur is considered to be the driving force behind the independence of Bangladesh. He is popularly dubbed with the title of "Bangabandhu" (Friend of Bengal) by the people of Bangladesh. He became popular for his opposition to the ethnic and institutional discrimination of Bengalis in Pakistan, who comprised the majority of the state's population.

The Gandhi Mandela awards will be given to personalities who have made significant contribution in the fields of Peace, Social Welfare, Culture, Environment, Education, Healthcare, Sports and Innovation.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is nominated for his exemplary work in the freedom struggle of Bangladesh.
