According to a UN study, the world's population will reach eight billion by November 2022, and India will surpass China as the most populated country by 2023.
According to the estimate, the world's population would likely increase by about 8.5 million people by 2030, 9.7 billion by 2050, and 10.4 billion by 2100. It also stated that the population is expanding at its slowest rate since 1950.
In 2022, Eastern and South-Eastern Asia (2.1 billion people) and Central and Southern Asia (26%) accounted for 29% and 26%, respectively, of the world's 2.3 billion inhabitants. According to the UN statistics made public on World Population Day on Thursday, China and India have more than 1.4 billion inhabitants apiece.
According to projections from the UN, eight countries—the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Tanzania—will account for more than half of the expected rise in the world's population by 2050.
