International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on the progress made in women empowerment, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
As the world celebrates Women’s Day, airlines have announced to distribute roses and cookies to passengers welcoming them, also giving relaxation to women cabin crews from their daily uniforms and allowing them to go with or without make-up.
“Every individual and the society must respect women. It is a moment of absolute pride and honor for Air Indians that our women employees are leaving their mark in the aviation sector on a global scale. I would like to congratulate our women crew for operating so many flights on various international and domestic routes fuelled by their indomitable nari shakti,” Air India chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani said.
Low-cost carrier Spice Jet will operate 22 flights with all-woman crew. Women flying alone will be offered priority check-in and boarding. Domestic carrier Vistara will be serving special dishes and provide sanitary napkins.
In addition, under the Smart Woman campaign, Go Air is giving complimentary upgrade to all women travellers flying on March 8 to GoBusiness class on availability on first-come-first serve basis.
President Ram Nath Kovind said in a message, “On International Women's Day, greetings to women in India and across the world. Women are the sheet-anchor of society, an inspiration for their families and for our nation. Let us strive to ensure equality of opportunity for every woman and every girl child.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also saluted women power. “On International Women's Day, we salute our indomitable Nari Shakti,” he tweeted.
