Biden-Putin: The Beginning of Dialogues

No wonder this Biden-Putin dialogue, despite the old acquaintance of Biden and Xi Jinping, could go on to draw a new line in international politics. It will also be beneficial for India

The meeting between US President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Geneva is not only important for these two superpowers but it is also an important event from the point of view of world politics.

The tales of the already ongoing nexus between former US President Donald Trump and Putin had become quite famous and when they met in Helsinki in 2018, the atmosphere of their meeting was very hot but this time both Biden and Putin were cautious and hesitant before their meeting. Despite this, it has to be admitted that the meeting between the two leaders was very positive.

The first thing that happened is that both the countries have announced to send their ambassadors back to each other's capital. Both the countries had withdrawn their ambassadors because Biden had called Putin a 'killer'. In this meeting too, Biden took a tough stand on Russia's opposition leader Alexei Navalny and he told reporters that if Navalni, who was in jail, was killed, the consequences would be dire. This is an extreme reaction in my opinion. You can express your opinion in the internal matters of any country, but how far is it okay to jump into them?

The two leaders also took a resolution to consider several nuclear arms-control treaties and preventing cyber attacks. Putin also rebuffed the US attitude of mobilizing Russian troops on Ukraine's eastern frontier and blaming some Russians for cyber attacks. But in spite of these disagreements, there was no altercation anywhere in the four-hour-long dialogue between the two leaders and on the basis of what the leaders talked to reporters later, it can be assumed that a meaningful dialogue between the two world powers has begun.

Both the leaders were not expecting much from this meeting but the meeting has now opened up the doors of dialogue between the two. It is worth noting through Biden's statement that he is not against Russia, but he is in favour of the interests of the American people.

Despite calling Putin a 'killer', Biden agreed to meet him, the root cause behind this which seems to me is China. America is very angry with China. How can it allow two superpowers to unite against it? For now, if the Cold War atmosphere is to be prevented from returning, it is very important for Russia-US relations to be smooth. No wonder this Biden-Putin dialogue, despite the old acquaintance of Biden and Xi Jinping, could go on to draw a new line in international politics. It will also be beneficial for India.
